THE WATER TRANSPORT SECTION  
 

The Water Transport Section currently has 18 regular members - organisations and private companies - which employ more than 1500 members of staff in the field of water transport.

The subject of activity within the section is the creation of conditions for the development of transportation systems in terms of freight, passenger, and recreational water transport, particularly from the perspective of the needs of transporters, and the protection and representation of their interests. The section covers a broad professional and locally dispersed range of members.

The core subject of activity involves the handling of the following problems:

the introduction of a system for the joint creation of a state transport policy and associated aims (transport network) in cooperation with public bodies;
-
the improvement of the current-day standing and function of the branch of water transport in comparison to other forms of transport in the Czech Republic and Europe;
-
the negotiation of the conditions for the conclusion of a higher collective agreement with the Trades Union;
-
the incorporation of water transport in the programme of combined transport in the Czech Republic;
-
the negotiation of the requirements of carriers on the quality and reliability of waterways in the Czech Republic (the length of operating times, shipping breaks);
-
the harmonisation of the legislative, technical, documentary, and operating conditions of our shipping with the conditions of the EU and the creation of mutual market protection;
-
the representation of the Union at international inter-governmental shipping meetings between the Czech Republic and Slovakia and the Czech Republic and Holland, and in the preparation of a general agreement with the EU;
-
cooperation with other professional associations and the integration of all water transport organisations in the Czech Republic in terms of organisation and legislation;
-
active connection to the European water transport structures, e.g. the "European Union of Shipping Enterprises", the "Association for the Development of the Elbe Region", and so on;
-
the harmonisation of the conditions for Czech carriers in the field of water transport upon accession to the EU and their preparation in terms of the legislative, documentary, and operational side of affairs;

the incorporation of the requirements of the branch of water transport in official materials such as the transport policy of the Czech Republic, the development of the transportation network infrastructure in the Czech Republic, the promotion of the AGN agreement on the transportation network in the Czech Republic, and the harmonisation of conditions for accession to the EU.

The section primarily promotes the following:

the unification of legislative conditions concerning the movement of goods and carriers, as well as the creation of market relations among individual forms of transport;

the construction and modernisation of the water transport infrastructure in accordance with the implementation of the AGN agreement on international trans-European routes in Europe (valid in the Czech Republic - endorsed by the Ministry of Transport and Communication of the Czech Republic);
-
the renovation and development of the shipping fleet;
-
the training of qualified water transport experts at the level of apprentice training (shipping operation, the construction of ships), secondary education (shipping operation, the construction of ships, transport-related engineering), and further education (transport, engineering, operational economics);
-
publicity and the public education activities of members of the section within the scope of professional seminars and conferences, in professional magazines, and at special events.
